Whose life is it anyways?

robin-williamsLike many, when I heard the news about Robin Williams’ suicide I had a pause. This naturally brings up a surprise and sadness and feels like a loss for so many of us whose lives he filled with laughter through his personality and amazing talent. Suicide is one of life’s paradoxes just as happiness and sadness are. We are all faced with these extreme feelings at one time or another in our lives. Life is a paradox, which cannot exist without highs and lows, happiness and sadness. Life cannot exist without the polarity of the opposites. To come out of the paradox of life’s ups and downs we must understand the inevitability of our contradictory feelings, dis-identify from them, and make friends with them. We must be watchful and aware, knowing that if we are feeling happy and high, the lows will be waiting around the corner as a shadow that follows our happiness.

Another point to consider is that when we swing from one side of the pendulum to the other without having a resting place in the middle our spirit gets tired and longs for rest and peace. This is what meditation and spiritual work help us do. However, when someone is not accustomed to finding this silent inner place inside and keeps swinging back and forth to the opposite side of the pendulum, suicidal thoughts become inevitable. At this point the person is really tired and deeply depressed. He has missed seeing that life is just an opportunity for him to learn his lessons and become conscious of his true being.

In my view, suicide is not a mental illness; it is an indication that the person has not found their true inner stillness and peace. Anyone who is capable of feeling the pain and sadness that this earth is surrounded with cannot avoid but to think of the meaninglessness of life and naturally contemplate escaping from its harshness. Unaware of the eternal stillness that can only be found within the unmoving center of his being at any time, in the middle of the chaos of the world and his own mind, he tries to escape from life’s challenges and his own mind to find some peace.

There are more people on the planet today who are feeling depressed than ever before. To me, this shows that we have more intelligent people on the planet now than ever before who recognize that something fundamental is missing in their lives. Only the most sensitive and intelligent people will ever think of suicide. Sadly and unfortunately, they are missing a fundamental understanding that life is but a temporary school where we all come to learn and transform what is unconscious in us into consciousness. In other words, we come here to heal into consciousness!

The pain of seeing how fleeting everything is in life (fame, success, youth, and even love) affects each person differently. Each person handles life’s ups and downs and the many disappointments of loosing what they have been attached to and identified with differently. Various forms of suicidal thoughts happen to many people at one time or another throughout their lives. Some people think about it and some act upon it. I have personally thought of suicide many times when I was younger. But, I also knew that I will not act upon it. What saved me from eventually committing suicide was the need to understand why I was feeling the way I was and the need to know my true Self.

As we become more sophisticated and more intelligent as a species, we must teach our children early on about the temporariness of life and give them a true perspective that we are all mortals and are here only for a limited time. We need to teach them that death is inevitable, and therefore they must make the best out of their lives while they are visiting here and not to take anything for granted. With this new kind of education we can help our children make the most creative choices in their lives and fearlessly live their own unique gifts. We must teach our children to look inside and ask who they truly are, what they are doing there, and where they will go when they die. To me, this is the only way that we can avoid a mass suicide of the most intelligent people on the planet and can transform rampant depression into rampant celebration of life!

In my view, Robin Williams has given a big gift to humanity by taking his own life. He has certainly awoken a sleeping giant. Hopefully humanity and their so-called experts will be smart enough and humble enough not to try and fix this existential symptom of depression and suicide with the outdated tools, which were created by the old socio-religious conditionings. If we want true change we must stop sustaining the old structures of education and stop labeling people, which do not fit into the norm. We must stop feeding our children our own fear and ignorance and have the courage to face and transform our fear of death and the unknown.

Embracing the Light

In January 1990, a few days after Osho’s death, I had a vision. I was within a boundless cosmic darkness, waiting for something to happen. Suddenly, there appeared a small ball of light shining brightly in the darkness. The Light was like the Sun, illuminating the surrounding darkness and giving life to everything in its sphere. The energy of Light was the collective consciousness of all the enlightened beings that had, at one time, lived on the planet Earth. They were now united as one source of energy, light, and consciousness.

The energy of Darkness was the energy of all the unconsciousness within the universe, including the unconsciousness of all humans living on the planet Earth. Light was aware of Darkness and conscious of itself, and Darkness was aware of Light but it was unconscious of itself. Darkness was threatened by Light and thought that Light was its enemy. Light knew it was once part of Darkness and wanted Darkness to know that they were not separate. Darkness, however, was afraid of Light’s power to expose things hidden in the darkness.

Feeling threatened by Light, Darkness tried to suppress it in order to maintain control and rule the Earth. The Light, attempting to grow in size and brightness, was patiently waiting for other beings to awaken and join in its endless celebration of Joy. Suddenly, within seconds, many small light streams emerged out of Darkness and at the speed of light began entering into the ball of Light from all directions. As the light of each awakened being merged with the collective Light of the Awakened Ones, it lost its separate identity as an “I” and became one with the collective consciousness of Light. Light quickly grew in size and strength.

Then, all movement stopped just as suddenly as it had begun, and everything came to a standstill. Light, though visibly smaller compared to the Darkness that prevailed on the planet Earth, was now as powerful as Darkness. A question stood hanging in the air: Who would win the battle and tip the scale, to determine how humanity would live for the next 2,500 years? Who would rule life on Earth? Would it be the creative and compassionate consciousness of Light or the destructive unconsciousness of Darkness? Darkness struggled to maintain its power, while Light, with its now greater size and strength, almost forcibly pulled one more light stream out of Darkness. As this last light stream entered the Light, it tipped the scale of power and Light became victorious.

This vision filled my heart with joy. Deep in my soul I knew that in spite of the much-talked about coming doomsday that the unconscious powers are preparing for, the Light will overcome Darkness and humanity will enter the Enlightened Era of greater consciousness – a consciousness that cares for all fellow humans, the Planet and all its creatures. Although it may seem like life on Earth is becoming grimmer, I believe, as do many others, that the foundation of our collective consciousness is strong, and the new dawn of a more aware and loving humanity is just around the corner.

Every one of us can make a difference in our common future by courageously transforming the unconscious darkness of our own ego-mind into consciousness. Conscious people don’t create wars – they strive for unity. Only consciousness can help us live in peace, freedom, love, and brotherhood, and make this planet a better place for ourselves and the generations to come.

I hope this book is an invitation and a supportive guide in your journey from Darkness into Light.

Clean your Toilet with Joy

Cleaning is an essential part of spirituality. Cleaning a floor or your toilet, washing your clothes or your dishes humbles the ego. It cleans your etheric body of many accumulated thoughts and emotions. Cleaning can help you experience No-Mind in the Here and Now. Clean with care and enjoy feeling the space that opens inside and outside. Clean with joy, so you can discover the joy of creativity that is within your being. This joy is not separate from Joy that permeates the whole of existence.

The Cinderella Conditioning

Remember to witness even when you are in a positive happy state (not just when you are in a negative state). It is harder to witness when you are happy because behind happiness hides the ‘Cinderella’ conditioning. When you are happy, instead of just enjoying that moment of happiness you begin to worry about loosing it and think of how to keep it forever.

But life is a flux. Living ‘happily ever after’ is just a hopeful conditioning. It comes from a deeper part of you, which is not happy.

Because you’re not able to flow with life moment to moment, and have been trained to either negate the negative or change it into positive, the temptation is to try to hold on to the positive and turn it into a plastic flower.

In order to be in your being and be truly content each moment, you need to witness and disidentify from both the positive and negative polarities of the mind.

Protecting yourself from negative energy

Q: I recently received a question that many of you may also have:

I am trying to learn to protect myself from absorbing everyone else’s energy because it exhausts me. How do I keep an open loving heart, while still protecting my own internal balance from being offset by others?

A: The funny thing is that when you think how to be in your heart you are already out! When you are in your heart it does not matter what others do. What I would suggest is that it is better to be concerned about how to be a witness to all that happens inside and outside instead of trying to “protect” yourself. This is so you can see your ego-mind and understand that you are not your ego but only a witness. By trying to “protect” yourself you close your own heart and at the same time miss being in your full power and center. That being said, the best way to “protect” yourself is to find and be with people who are on the same wavelength and are supportive of you.

Pain as a friend?

Until you find and erase the cause of your pain and illness everything is a band aid solution. The causes are hidden in your body and psyche. They have something to do with the unconscious thoughts emotions and beliefs repressed in your body.

Instead of trying to fix and repress pain, look at it as a friend who is trying to tell you something about how you are living your life. Pain is trying to help you become more conscious and aware of your life and what you do with it – are you taking risks and living  life fully or are you holding back by following your fears, beliefs, and conditionings? Whatever you hold back on living will create pain!
